It's the End of the World As We Know It

Hello my dear friends -

Well, it's over. It doesn't seem possible -- but it's true. Lost is over.

As I mentioned last week, I'll be back with my full -- and I do mean full -- analysis before the end of June (at the very latest), but until then I'll just say that I am extremely happy with how everything wrapped up. There wasn't a dull moment in those two and a half hours, that's for sure. And all of the incredible parallels to Season One? Amazing.

But let's get to what everyone's sure to be debating until the end of time: the last fifteen minutes. I'll admit that on my first viewing, I did not like the "twist" near the end (I'm purposely not mentioning any of the details so that those overseas who might stumble upon this post aren't inadvertently spoiled). But that's also probably because I totally misinterpreted what was going on. Then my husband, Miss M and I talked through it, watched those last fifteen minutes over again, and now I get it. And I love it.

What did you think?

Catch ya in a few weeks... and if you don't trust yourself to remember to check back, you can sign up for my emailed posts (to the right), or follow me on Twitter. Or mark your calendar for June 30 -- I should definitely be done by then.

In the meantime, I'm going to post a very short comment right now (below this post) with my understanding of what went down in the closing moments of the series. And you can of course feel free to write whatever you'd like in the comments. Which means those of you who have not seen the finale yet -- steer clear.

Until June,
- e

After reflecting on it for a couple of weeks now, I've decided that the ending was satisfying emotionally but not intellectually.

I also suspect that, before terribly long, we'll be discussing the meaning behind the creative team's followup project, "Lost: the Next Chapter."

Sorry if this has been brought up before (sooooo many comments! I've read a lot, but not all of them). I recently finished reading P. K. Dick's "Ubik". It's an amazing book, and I don't think I'm giving much away if I mention this, since it's introduced near the beginning of the book: one of the great things about "Ubik" is the notion of half-life. I'm not saying that such is the case with the alt-timeline, but there are a few similarities that might throw some light on Season 6. The cool thing about Dick's half-life is that the psychic energy generated by dead people creates a sort of alternate universe with some reminiscences of our reality. It's as if everyone who died managed to create a sort of alternate reality that very much resembles ours, only with a some details changed (particularly time-related matters). Of course, it takes some time for this "half-lifers" to realize that they're dead. But the most important thing is that everyone's energy is important. Everyone must play a part... "cheap-in", so to speak. I couldn't help but thinking about our LAX losties: so many parallels, but also so many differences between both realities. Again, I'm not saying that this is what's going on, but I think it is something on that note... Anyway, I want to thank you, e, for making the Lost-experience all the richer. I've been following your recaps since Season 3 (so long ago!!!). Greetings from Argentina!!!

"The light in the sky is not an every day/week/year event though surely?"

Of course light in the sky is everyday event, actually it is the easiest way of counting days. )))

But if we are talking about electromagnetism\time-traveling light then no, I don't think that it is a regular event. Every light-in-the-sky event was a result of peoples actions, and there is no evidence that would suggest otherwise.

ICE-H.........Thats funny, unless you live in Norway or Iceland where there is no daylight for up to 6 Months.

The island does move through time and space, therefore one day it could be north of Iceland?

I am so very upset, I feel betrayed, and most of all, I feel they destroyed the best show of all time. Up until the last 15 minutes, I was LOVING IT.

And, then, they added the ending that could have been the ending the ANY TV SHOW, because it did not relate to the island in anyway. SORRY PEOPLE, ITS THE TRUTH. I cannot imagine how people were satistifed with this, especially you, e... The end was basically, we all meet up in heaven (or, whatever it was meant to be). Season 6? meant nothing. 5 seasons on the island, with stuff happening, that also meant nothing? I am extremely upset, all of the people I had badgered into watching this show over the years are mad at me, I cannot believe it....

I am just really grieving for a wonderful show that they ruined. Thank GOD I didnt buy the Blurays that amazon was trying to get me to buy for the last 6 months....phew! I will never watch this show again.

This is a totally random post, but I just had to post it somewhere. And since this does relate to this blog, I thought this was the best place. I've been watching SeanieB's recaps. I'll admit it - I'm lazy and don't always feel like reading.
But he has been taking a suspiciously long time to get his recap up and I'm beginning to wonder if he is just waiting for you to post yours.

Maybe it's an unfair suspicion, but it's been done before. Anyway I just had to get that off my mind.
*****************************

Anyway, looking forward to reading your recap, Erika. To be honest, I really didn't like the ending at all. I just felt like it was such a cop out.

I know you said we were allowed to sign up for an emailed version of your finale blog, but I thought "I'm not that addicted. I don't need her to email me her blog."

Since that day, I swear I've checked every single day to see if your finale extravaganza is up yet. Every day I leave the computer sad and unsatisfied.

Please e, give us a hint, a teaser, an ETA on your finale post.

Please,

Laurel

Desmond says to Jack before he goes into the light cave that nothing matters!

Everyone will end up with their loved ones!!

Does that mean nothing what happened before hand on the island matters?

Hi Laurel -

I'm still shooting for the end of June, but haven't even started the post yet, so that might slip a bit. It definitely will not be up within the next week.

Thanks for hangin' in!
