Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

Happy New Year!

It's been a long, hard wait, my dear friends... but we've finally reached the month of Lost's return. The ABC Promo Monkeys are cranking the hype-o-meter up to eleven and have released a few new commercials, as well as this incredible eight minute, fifteen second recap of all three seasons. If you didn't catch the 815 reference in the previous sentence, you need to get yourself back into Lost Mode ASAP! Remember "the numbers"? Remember the Island? Remember Smokey? I know, I know, it has been a long time... but luckily this video will help bring everything back. And it's funny, to boot.

Lost wouldn't be Lost without giving its fans something new to obsess over now that the premiere is just four weeks away, so the latest twist from the marketing geniuses behind the show is a web site packed with clues about what exactly went wrong on that fateful flight from Sydney to LA. First there was Fly Oceanic Air, which introduced a character named "Sam" whose girlfriend was a stewardess on Flight 815. The Oceanic site lead to another site entitled Find 815, which is essentially an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) in which you can search Sam's apartment and watch a series of videos that reveal progressively more information about what happened to our beloved Lostaways. Or... you could just let other nerds do the work. Even a Lost-crazed freak like me with no job doesn't have time to figure out this extremely detailed online game, so I'm cheating! If I hear of anything important that is revealed via Find 815, I will let you know. For those of you who do attempt to play the game or look at the site I linked to above that posts clues for us lazy peeps, beware that both may contain spoilers about the upcoming season. And shout-outs to my brother and Zoƫ who made sure I knew about the ARG!

In the meantime, be sure your calendars are marked for the TWO-HOUR (yay!) Season Premiere of Lost on January 31st at 8 EST/7 CST. I am praying that the second hour of the premiere doesn't count as one of the eight episodes they already had filmed before the writers' strike...

I wish to feel as excited as you are E, but its not the case. I watch very little tv, and Lost was MY weekly hour of pure enjoyment. I feel sooooo....cheated about seing only half of the season. And yes, I am sure the premiere count for two episodes, this for making the pill easier to swallow. "They" give us to hours, trying to make up for what we wont see before who knows when...

Sorry ! I won't complain anymore. And I truly enjoy reading your recaps ! Even when I don't agree with you sometimes.

I meant "TWO hours". Sorry for the spelling mistake! Grrr!

No worries - I edit each post on both of my blogs about 12 times AFTER they go live because I keep finding mistakes, so believe me, I understand!

Hey e--
Am I seeing things or does the latest promo from ABC (the "Lost--the return" one over on Dark UFO's site) end with the usual island background scene on top of the show's title, BUT...with a scene of a city, presumably LA, on the bottom? Upside down? A reference to the flash-forwards we've been promised in Season 4? Or am I just crazy? My sanity hangs in your hands...ha!

Also...my daughter's 6th birthday is January 31st. Does it make me a superbad mother that I'm so thankful her party is going to be on Feb. 2 and NOT the evening of the 31st? My entire household knows that come 8 pm that evening, I am to be left alone with the TV for 2 solid hours!!!! It's been 8 months!

Keep up the great work on the blog...

First off, you definitely are not a bad mother for being glad your daughter's party is on the 2nd, because all the best moms are sure to keep some "alone time" sacred for themselves! I am glad you've already laid down the law with your peeps!

Regarding the end of the promo (it's the same video that's on my post before this one)-- DAMN YOU for making me watch it over and over yet AGAIN! Only this time I kept having to hear "We have to go back, Kate--WE HAVE TO GO BACK!!!" ten million times since that scene's right at the end. I definitely see what you are saying, so you are definitely not insane. I just can't tell if it's a) an upside-down skyline, b) a reflection of the island, though it doesn't really match up, c) a weird reflection of the island and the LOST letters or d) just weird effects that don't mean anything. I would like to think it is "a" because of the whole "Through The Looking Glass" theme of the finale, showing what has happened "on the other side" off of the island. So I will choose to believe it is indeed an upside-down LA skyline. Have you posted this over on DarkUFO's site? They will have someone figure it out in like 2 seconds! ; )

I was thinking about your bitterness at only getting 8 hours, but remember, that is NOT the show's fault, that's because of the writers' strike (which, yes, the show's producers support, but they kind of have to, right?). I'm just happy they got anything filmed at all before the strike because otherwise we'd all be waiting two full years to see anything. Even *I* might have given up at that point!

Thanks E !

Yes, I know its not anyone's fault really. And I don't know enough about the strike, to say anything about it. I agree with you, 8 hours are better than a two years hiatus.

I am curious to see how Locke's character will evolve this season, he is also my favourite. I'm afraid we will see a bad bad Locke ( bad luck ?), and Ben will turn out to be "the good guy" , who knows ?

Just joking, and practicing my english...

e,
I'm so glad it wasn't in my head. Lover as I am of Lost, I'm not quite near the level of "Lost knowledge" as you and DarkUFO and some of the other fine people out there. (Where's Humpy been?!?) But when I first noticed it, like you the only think I could think of was, "Well, now that we're gonna be doing flash-forwards, this is the flip side to life on the island." As in between those who stay and those who are "rescued." If you hear of any good explanation for this--if it's different from what we're thinking--please post & let us know!

And you are right...I had to hear Jack scream at Kate a good 9 or 10 times while I watched the clip over and over. I'm so over that scene now that I've seen it way too many times.

p.s. Not to harass you anymore, but there's one other item regarding all-that-is-Lost that's been plaguing my thoughts. In the Season 3 finale, Ben tells Jack that if they use Naomi's phone to contact rescue help, "Every living person on this island will die." Dum-dum-duuuuuummmm.

OK, so no biggie when mentioned during the finale, because we've all heard Ben's desperate pleas when his life is on the line. But when the promo for Season 4 airs, the ABC powers-that-be make a point of airing that sentence again--one of the few clips used from last season. So now my brain is in overdrive, analyzing the whole, "every LIVING person" specification. I know Cuse & Lindelof have previously promised that the island won't be a cop-out, i.e. "they're in purgatory" or "it was all a dream" aka the Bobby Ewing is dead ruse. And duh, I know only "living" people can be killed...so are Ben & his peeps immune from said killing spree? I know I'm in analyze hyperdrive here and this question can be fleshed out & down about 200 more rabbit trails...but still. It's got me thinking & wondering. All for naught? Whaddaya think?

Oh--I know you're not a total moron, but Leigh Anne is Lula and vice versa. Sorry if there was a moment of confusion!
