Look Out, Here Comes Tomorrow

Hello my dear friends -

I just wanted to take a few minutes to wish you all a Happy Finale Day tomorrow. As I'm sure you've heard, the West Coast feed of the show will be broadcast simultaneously in several other countries in order to help fans overseas avoid spoilers. Now, those fan are going to have to get up a 5 a.m. -- but hey, what a way to start your day, right?

Several of you have asked what I'm doing for the finale, and my answer is that I'm just keeping it low-key. My plan had always been to watch it completely alone... I guess I just wanted to feel like I had the last hours of the show all to myself or something. But then my good friend Miss M -- whom some of you might remember from my Season One and Two write-ups (I often stayed at her place in NYC when I worked for The Man) -- learned that she was going to be in Chicago this weekend, and I asked if she could extend her visit a little longer. So I'll now be watching the five-and-a-half-hour Lost extravaganza tomorrow night with her, my husband, and two of our good friends from grad school, EG and KG, who were part of my original Season One viewing crew. These four are among a handful of people in the world who've already seen me at my worst in years past, so if I completely lose it in front of them during the show and start sobbing like a fool, it's all good. They've proven they can handle it.

I decided to haul out all of my Lost memorabilia for the occasion -- I'm actually still in the process of decorating, but here are a few shots of my TV room so far:

All of my Lost action figures are off to the side, out of view. I'll make sure they have a good seat for the main event, though, so don't you worry about them. And, um, no... my manuscript isn't done yet. But sometimes I just can't sit at my laptop another second longer -- so the decorating was a nice excuse to give the ol' legs a stretch. I also took a five-minute break Friday morning to talk with the team at KPAM radio about why Lost is such a huge phenomenon -- you can take a listen here if you'd like.

OK, folks -- here's hoping for laughter and tears and gasps and lumps in the throat tomorrow evening -- as well as a feeling of happiness and satisfaction as a wonderful, life-changing ride comes to an end.

See you on the other side...
- e

PS - HAPPY UPDATE: Just found out that my friend KG went into labor at midnight last night (I was convinced she was going to have her baby girl at our place during the finale... and I guess I wasn't too far off)! So she and EG will only be at my place in spirit tomorrow evening. You can rest assured that I already bought this child Lost-inspired outfits -- one features the Driveshaft logo, and the other is a onesie that says, "Don't tell me what I can't do!" Hee hee.

Funny what a personal experience watching Lost has been and continues to be, especially for hardcore fans of the show. My family of three doesn't care to participate in some big to-do watching of the finale. We want to see it just as we've watched every episode since its premiere in September 2004 -- as a family of three immersed in an amazing journey with a band of lost travelers in search of life's great questions. We're looking forward to discovering the answers on our home TV screen.

I've always enjoyed your Long Live Locke posts once I found them. I'm feeling a little ambivalent about tomorrow. I don't know if I wanna know the answers! Wah.

Thanks for all of hard work over the years E, sharing your insights with us! I'm very excited about tomorrow night, but it will be bittersweet. I want to see the finale, but I'm also not ready for it all to be over! My plan is to be locked up in my room for the night, so that I can watch it uninterrupted. I'm glad to hear that our buddies overseas won't have to wait to see it! Have a happy finale watching everyone! =)

Oh, and check out this shirt I found on shirt.woot.com. I don't think it will win the derby, but I would totally buy it if it did!

Erica,
Yours was the first recap that I really fell in love with, and have tuned into Lost fan community to find it for the longest (since season 3). Since then, I've become obsessed with recaps, blogs, theories, podcasts, and wish that I had another handful of years to enjoy being a part of the virtual LOST community. But, all good things come to an end... boo hoo.
I'll be enjoying the finale at home tomorrow night with my partner. We Netflixed season 1 on a whim 4 years ago and have been tuning in to the show ever since. I've already warned her that we'll be up late talking about what happened, but I'm sure that most of the good chatter will come from the recappers, bloggers, and podcasters. I really look forward to reading your final thoughts as this incredible adventure comes to an end.
Best of luck to you in finishing your manuscript, and in your career that is sure to continue to blossom!
Namaste

I would like to say - Thank you - e for being there when I needed help with lost and it's mysteries and puzzles.

Even if you were wrong you were modest enough to admit it and that was all part of the fun of watching the episode and then reading your blogs.

It has been an amazing time I cannot believe 6 years have past so quickly.

I, like yourself, have not even begun to come to terms with the show ending and I have never ever been this addicted to a TV programme in my life.

The nearest I have ever been to liking a show was when I was a kid and I couldn't miss an episode of Quantum Leap!

If you find another show that comes anywhere near LOST in the future, please post on Facebook and I will be watching out for it.

I also can't wait to watch the show at the very same time as everyone else in the world, even though I will be watching it alone, I know that all the people who I see on these blogs will be watching it at the same time.

I could waffle on for a lot longer, and I am getting carried away. Mainly because I don't want it to end!

Anyway - See you in another life Sista!!

and

Namaste :-)

I'm really sad that it's coming to an end, and looking forward to getting the answers! But mostly I would just like to say thank you, e, for all the effort you have put into these posts over the years. You have made watching this show that much more enjoyable for all of us.

I hope you keep the blogs up; after the finale my mates and I will be starting over from Season 1, and it would be nice to read your comments on them (I only discovered you in Season 4). Thanks again, e!

Thanks for all of your recaps Erica, I'm a fairly new follower but a long time Lostaholic! I'm over in the UK and will be taking Monday off work to watch the finale!

Erika you make me laugh! You are the same age as me and I think you sound like a young girl. The thing is I laugh because I know I sound the same way talking about Lost! Thanks for all your great recaps and good luck with the book. Sunday is going to be such a sad day for all us Losties : (

I hate to do this, but I know the ending. It will consist of two hours of the pilot, played backwards.

Namaste' !!!

ps: e, you ROCK!

I started my Lost weekend today by... bumping into Michael Emerson in a parking garage in Beverly Hills! That was the happy moment. Tomorrow at 11:30 is going to be a very, very sad moment.

Thank you, e, for all of your wonderful recaps (and explanations!) Best of luck to you with your book!

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your recaps and have been lurking on the site for the last few years. Just wanted to say thank you for your hard work. It's great to know that there are such passionate people in this world. BTW, I couldn't resist a little laugh at your Lost shine. I wish I had all that cool lost memorabilia! Enjoy the finale and once again thank your for sharing your mind with us.

Hey E!

Here's my romantic night time for the wife and I. Got us a sitter, booked a hotel room and we are watching it together off site to ensure no interruptions. Really looking forward to it!!!

Thrilled it's coming to an end. Agree it's been a life-changer....I mean we didn't even need a sitter when it started:-)

All the best to you as your writing takes you higher and higher.

I keep seeing the 'alternate endings' being marketed as an exclusive JKL Show thing. I am really hopinghe does them as a joke...and that we don't have 3 or 4 endings on our brains after this is over.

e - I've been reading your posts since they were emails forwarded to me in Season One. Thanks for adding me to your distribution list back then. Thanks also for inspiring my Mary Worth and Me blog in so many ways. We will definitely be watching with you in spirit tonight, and enjoying tacos smothered in Dharma ranch dressing.

Hi Erica,
I'm not going to be good tonight, I can tell, as I cried just reading what everyone has written. Thanks for all of your great insights, for as much as I love Lost, I love the online community of bloggers also, always seeing things I (totally) missed, and sharing the mystery of our beloved show. I plan on watching with a friend and all of my pets, who have been warned to be on good behavior!!!
Good luck with your book, and enjoy tonight. It's so bittersweet isn't it?

Well its been one hell of a journey. I still remember what my then 12 year old son said to me before the pilot, "we have got to watch this new show tonight Dad called Lost, it's about a plane crash on this Island but there is more to it than that!!!" I think that sums up the last 6 years!

He is eighteen now and will be on a college trip to the South of France on Monday so I will watch the Finale on my own for the first time.

It has been great watching it evolve. When it was first shown in the UK we were a few months behind, fans here would Download it, buy copies on ebay anything to keep up. I remember visiting Florida in December 2005 and seeing the hatch events well in advance of back home.

So we have come full circle and we will finaly see an episode in "real time" (well Pacific time anyway)

Have a great evening e, I will set my alarm for the morning and catch up with your thoughts later

Cheers!

Thanks so much for all your posts which have helped me sift through my thoughts and make more sense of it all. Enjoy watching the final, and keep the tissues handy. It's the end of an era, and I have loved being part of this community. Thanks again x

Thanks for all your posts through the years, they have definitely helped me wrap my head around Lost. Enjoy the finale!! It's bittersweet to see it all come to an end. I hope we all are talking tomorrow morning about how great it was.

Thanks for enriching the "Lost" experience for so many of us. I'll miss your recaps as well as the show. Interesting how you and many others wanted to keep the finale low-key and not have a big party. I've always wondered about the people who attend Super Bowl parties and actually want watch the game--as in no talking except maybe during a lame commercial. That's never me--I'm generally one of the ones they're 'shushing." Now I understand. I had planned to watch the finale alone but in the end decided to watch it with good friends, who, like yours, have seen me at my worst already. And then I'm sleeping over and taking a vacation day tomorrow. In my opinion, tomorrow should be a national day of mourning -- lol.

Oh, and I have to ask--did your friend who just had the baby pick an appropriate name for this child in honor of the weekend of her birth--Kate, perhaps, or maybe Claire, Rose, Sun, Libby, Ana Lucia, Juliet, Helen, Sarah, Nadia, Shannon or Zoe? Seems only fitting. :) Congratulations to all, regardless.

Enjoy!

Yours is one of the first blogs I found on Lost. Thanks for all the great reading!! I am watching alone tonight, my kids and husband still think I am insane...although my 11 year old has said she will re-watch with me once we get the series DVD set. I am sure we'll have a convert...she likes sci-fi/fantasy like her mom. Happy Lost-ing!

The finale just reeled out, and I must say that I'm more than a little disappointed with the last 40 minutes or so - a six year buildup for that? gimme a break.

Erika, it sounds as though the worst is over, and with only three days left in this 2010 June, you'll have a fresh start waiting for you in a blink. Rest, recharge, re-energize, renew. We're not going anywhere... So eager to hear of "your" book. It is, after all, reality that we all live in. Sure, we all love (and loved) LOST, but it is this life that sustains us.
